A man with a beard, wearing an orange cap, a camouflage t-shirt, and black shorts, standing next to a beige off-road vehicle in a grassy field during sunset. The man is petting a large black and white dog that is sitting on the vehicle's hood, with a landscape of hills and water in the background under a blue sky.

I’m TJ, this Handsome hound is Hank Williams and we are Sage Ventures.

Originally From Ohio, Hank and I moved to Montana in the beginning of March, 2020. We experienced a lot of firsts in our pursuit of finding our western dream. Dirt road driving, town streets with no signs, long stretches with no cell service, and a landscape with no man-made structures in sight was daunting at first.

To many this is business as usual but for a mid-westerner like myself, it took time to find the courage and self confidence to find comfort in the unknowns this landscape throws at you. That is the core of what I want Sage Ventures to be - a tool that hears your voice of doubt and offers the tools/resources to say “this is how we would handle it.”

Montana has blessed me with memories, photos, and lessons I’ll carry forever. One of the first came on a trip to Helena. My ’93 Wrangler—held together mostly by hope—lost its alternator and shredded the serpentine belt at 65 mph. Stranded and overheated, I barely had time to panic before a stranger and fellow Jeeper, Scott, pulled over, loaded me up, and hauled me into town.

That kind of kindness isn’t rare here. It’s woven into the fabric of Central Montana. Folks like Scott, Shanna at Marigold Market, and Chris at NAPA welcomed me long before I felt like I belonged.

The mountains out west get the spotlight, but the heart of Montana beats strongest in its small towns. The roads are quieter, the days slower, and the friendships deeper. You come for the landscape, but you stay because someone always shows up when you need them.
